Global Awareness Day

Global Awareness Day
“Friends Around the World”
Cultural Outreach Program

When:  Friday, March 16, 2007

Educational goal:  To experience and learn about different people and cultures from around the world.

“This cultural awareness day brings all nations together, not only for the children but for the greater understanding of all people.”
WSU Student Sooraj Maharjan

Each classroom represented a different country.  Elaborate cultural décor, flags, and costumes decorated the classrooms and the entire school.  WSU students will presented each country’s culture through visual presentations and song/dance participation.  There was a “Japanese Restaurant” to taste native cuisine.  W-K students rotated through “classroom countries” and experienced a wonderful variety of cultures throughout the day. Each student left that day with a passports record of their “travels”, and a keepsake laminated world map.

The day ended with a magnificent parade of flags program which included songs the students learned prior to this day, a fashion show of native costumes, and a worldwide dance/music presentation.
