House of Representatives Update 3/8/2007 11:30 AMThe House of Representatives is moving quickly on passing the Children’s Health Security Act (HF1). This legislative initiative will cover all children up to 300% of poverty and move toward a consolidated health insurance program for children. It is likely that this legislation will move to the House Floor is likely to pass. The PTA supports this effort to make sure our children have access to health care at the most appropriate level.
The Senate Health Policy Committee has passed the Senate companion. It is unclear at this point how this proposal will proceed in the Senate. There is a move to use existing programs to cover uninsured children within existing programs, primarily MinnesotaCare.
It is likely that this proposal will become part of the final budget debates at the end of the legislative session. The PTA will continue to deliver the message that children with access to primary health care is one of those critical steps to academic success. We will continue to inform you as action on this issue proceeds.
